What is a Transit Log?

Foreign-Flagged Boats

The "Turkish Ports Yacht Registration Document," commonly known as the transit log, is a permit issued for foreign-flagged boats to enter/exit Turkish territorial waters and ports. Yachts entering or leaving Turkey must obtain a transit log when passing through border gates. The transit log issued upon entry is valid for one year. It must be kept onboard and presented to authorities upon request.

Private Boats

If the boat holds a Private Boat Certificate (ÖTB), a transit log is only required when exiting the country. Apart from this, a transit log is not needed for cruising within Turkish territorial waters.

Commercial Boats

All commercial boats are required to obtain a transit log. They must also acquire a new transit log for any voyage outside the port or abroad. If the boat belongs to a charter company, the document must be renewed for each contract change. No passenger whose name is not listed on the transit log is allowed on board. This is also beneficial for the validity of the boat’s third-party liability insurance.
